About The Artist
Josh Fradley
As a professional Australian artist and illustrator based in the Yarra Valley, I am surrounded by some of the most beautiful and engaging nature and wildlife which has inspired my artwork throughout my career.
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, with a love of all art styles from realism to comic art. I am mostly self taught but have spent time learning a range of different techniques and mediums from various instructors at the Melbourne School of Art and NMIT where I completed my degree in Illustration.
I have explored and worked in many different artistic practices including custom Illustration, portraiture, large scale murals, special effect makeup and sculpture as well as graphic design, jewellery design and artistic laser engraving as part of Spiral Cut Studio with my partner Jo.
Over the last few years I have been focused on drawing and illustrating animals and the natural world through my Predator/Prey collection and pet portraiture. I began by creating portraits of our Blue Tounge Lizard ‘Drako’ who sits for hours, motionless making him the perfect subject. I enjoyed this process so much that I then moved on to pet portraits for all my family, friends and then finally to everybody elses.
Capturing a moment in time through portraiture has become an important part of my artistic practice. Translating the unique personality and energy of a pet from a photo into a beautiful work of art is a passion and a privilege to create.
